A few weeks ago I heard, on the radio, an ad that really pissed me off. Surprise, surprise the company it was advertising was First for Women Insurance… my old nemesis.
So I submitted a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority. It took a while, but this morning I finally heard what happened to my complaint:
The ad has been pulled, and will never be flighted again.
Damn straight.
Precisely. Even strip-clubs, a service designed specifically designed for men, don't close their doors to any women who may want to frequent them.
ReplyDeleteWhere do these guys get off?
Eish :-) I have to sheepishly admit that I found some of those ads really funny. But down with sexism anyhow!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input on Carbon Trading, XO. If you hadn’t mentioned the trees I would have gone on my way and accepted it as being just another day at the multinational office and what do I know. But you had to go and mention the trees, didn’t you? I thought, “ What? All of a sudden, everyone's a tree hugger? Pinch me I must be dreaming!” So of course I pinched myself and went off to find out more. Well it’s a downward spiral, really. I’ve been drowning in it for two weeks now. I blame you for my current psoriasis attack and ulcer. See blog for hysteria and reactionary details.
BTW, there was a nice article about SALT in the Sunday Times last, with pretty pictures of stars and stuff. Good press is good! But tjoep-stil about the Golf Development.
While I don't particularly enjoy any of their ads (not surprising, since I'm not their target audience) this one in particular crossed the line.
ReplyDeleteI only heard it once... I understand that the ASA policy is that once they've received a complaint about an ad, they pull it immediately pending a decision... which would explain why I only heard it once: I complained immediately.
I'm glad I could help with the Carbon Trading thing... I was quite surprised about it when I first heard about it too.
I shall have to submit my letter to the Sunday Times as well then. I have recently learned that it sometimes does help to complain :)
