Twenty-Five Ways to Spot Quacks and Vitamin Pushers

Yes, I'm surfing a lot today... an excellent read!

  1. What I think they may have glossed over in the site is that there is a certain practical application for vitamin supplementation.

If, for some reason, you are unable to maintain a decent, balanced diet, then using a good multivitamin is a good way of ensuring you're getting everything that you need.

But what the article is trying to say is that we should rather try to ensure we get everything we need by eating a good diet.

I suspect that a lot of the time when people "feel better" after taking vitamins, it's because of the placebo effect:

They think "Ok, I've taken this pill that's supposed to make me feel better, so I'll start feeling better now". Whether the pill itself had any physical effect or not is debatable... but it probably didn't.
